Steeler
Big Golden brother is a good influence on Steeler. It looks like Steeler has learned to sit on command just like Hunter! I am told that Steeler also knows come and shake and is learning down.... Good boy Steeler! It looks like Steeler is in good hands or should I say paws.
WOW.... He is showing off his sit all by himself!

SWEET SARA
Here is Sara formerly Ameraucana. I think she is beautiful and by the looks of things she has stolen the heart of her new Daddy If you click on the face shot of her you will be able to see that she has one partial blue eye. Many times the liver dals eyes reflect red rather than green. Sara seems to have one eye that reflects green and one that reflects red. In dogs with blue eyes or partial blue eyes very little pigment is present in the back of the eye and the blood vessels that are normally hidden by this pigment are visible and make the reflection bright red. Many breeders feel that this lack of pigment in blue eyes is connected to deafness. Ironically Sara hears unilaterally and the ear that is deaf is on the same side as the partial blue eye. I feel she is very beautiful and many people have asked my why I didn't keep her. I strongly feel that blue eyes and unilateral hearing Dals make wonderful family companions but should never be bred. Therefore she has become a much loved family pet as evidenced in the photo below

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAZZ, PEET AND PATRICK
Today Bizzi and I went to a very fun filled birthday party for a sweet little liver Dal named Jazz who turned one year old today. Jazz is Gambit's little sister. The party was quite a gala affair complete with doggie games and birthday cakes and party favors. Lisa, who is Jazz's human Mom really knows how to throw a party! There were lots of different breeds of dogs there but the majority were Dalmatians! We played musical hulahoops which was fun. Every time the music stopped the dogs had to sit inside the hulahoop laying on the floor. Then we played treat toss where the dog had to catch a treat and each time the dog caught the treat the handler had to take a step backward and throw another one. Bizzi won! I couldn't believe she actually stayed on a sit stay as I was stepping back further away from her but she did! That is something her daddy Garrett couldn't do ever because he would just die if I was more than a couple feet away from him. He has often been called a sissyboy and a mommy's boy by my husband. We also had a relay race which was fun. Two of Jazz's littermate were also there Peet who lives close and Patrick who came 7 hours to attend the party. Before you ask...yes Dalmatian people are crazy! Here are two pictures of Georgia and her new neighbor Jake. I think these two will be partners in crime......what do you think?
Below are a couple of pictures of Sidney formerly known as Sebright. Sidney and Joe have already bonded as you can see by the kiss. The bottom picture is Sidney looking for Joe most likely.

NEW FRIENDS
Here is Steeler formerly known as Welsummer with his new buddy Hunter. Steeler is doing very well and will begin puppy classes on Dec. 13. Thank you Jeff and Jenny for keeping me informed of Steelers progress. It means a lot! Here is Ryder formerly Wyandotte playing with his big sister Bella. Bella is a litter mate to Bizzi. Chris tells me that Ryder is the smartest dog she has ever met. She tells me he is nearly housebroken already. I will get to see Ryder often as he is going to be shown! Thanks Chris for loving my baby Garrett. Here is Georgia formerly Minorca with one of her new doggie friends Jersey. She also has another friend Sukie who isn't pictured. I am sure having these two role models will be very good for her! Thanks Ben and Betsy for the pictures...please keep 'em coming!

This is the end of my job and I feel confident that each of these puppies will have a wonderful life. I tried to give these puppies the best start in life that I could so they would make loving companions.
Please stop back often to see these babies as they grow. All of their new owners promised to send me pictures from time to time and I will share them!

DAY FORTY EIGHT (BAER TESTING)
What is BAER testing?
BAER stands for Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response. Here is the BAER testing machine showing a normal hearing ear. It is hard to see but if this was a deaf ear the line would be nearly flat. There would be no peaks and valley. For those of you who have never seen this procedure, you will find some pictures below showing a puppy being tested.
What this procedure involved is two electrodes inserted in the head and then a small earphone placed in the ear. The machine makes a number of click in the dogs ear and the machine is able to record the brains response to what the ear hears.
The results of the BAER testing is 13 hearing ears and one deaf ear. Exactly as I predicted. Ameraucana only hears in one ear just like me. Puppies that only hear in one ear are called unis which is short for unilateral. They still make wonderful pets but, in my opinion, should never be bred. Unfortunately many breeders don't share my thoughts on this and continue to breed unilateral hearing Dal. I feel it is irresponsible to breed such a dog.
This was a very long day for the puppies and me. The closest place for me to have these puppies tested is over 3 hours away. That is a very long drive with 7 puppies but they did quite will through the whole ordeal.
